National physical fitness survey: problem and its future challenge

Abstract
More than 20 years have passed since National Physical Fitness Survey (NPFS) was conducted. Many data have been collected and utilized for various purpose. But still several questions remain unanswered. What is the current status of physical fitness of Korean youth and adult? Are Korean youth and adult more fit than those of foreign countries? How are secular trends of Korean youth and adult for physical fitness levels? Is the currently applied evaluation method of physical fitness appropriate? Does National Physical Fitness Survey answer for the questions listed in an appropriate way? The present paper was to re-view a historical change of physical fitness testing (its com-ponents and tests) in Korea, several issues regarding wheth-er the results of NPFS represent national physical fitness levels, evaluation standard setting of national physical fit-ness test, development of surveillance system, and future challenges to national physical fitness testing
